Radiation therapy is a painless and precise series of daily radiation treatments directed at the prostate to eradicate the cancer while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. If you decide that external beam radiation is the best approach for your treatment, we will provide you with the highest standard of care. We can be confident of this because:
- You will be treated by a Fox Chase Radiation Oncologist, the area’s most experienced and respected providers of radiation therapy for urological cancer. Fox Chase radiation oncologists were among the first to use intensity modulated radiation therapy with image guided radiation therapy, the technology currently utilized by The Prostate Center.
- We now offer our patients a major advancement in radiation therapy treatments. RapidArc™ radiotherapy technology is a method of radiation treatment that allows more of the radiation to be directed at the cancer site and less radiation to reach the surrounding healthy tissue. RapidArc™, also known as Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) is the most progressive application that can be executed on a linear accelerator. This differs from conventional therapy by treating the patient with a continuous 360 degree arc which improves the consistency of the dosage delivery. Each treatment takes only five minutes compared to the average 15 minutes with standard radiation therapy.
- We focus on prostate cancer patients. This provides an environment that is conducive to focused attention and treatment advancement.
- We are efficient with your time. Radiation therapy occurs over approximately forty treatments that span approximately two months. Each treatment rarely takes more than fifteen minutes because we focused solely on prostate care. There is no down time for reconfiguring equipment or delays for emergency treatments. When we say we will see you at 9:00 am, we mean 9:00 am!
